PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press forming apparatus capable of uniformizing the temperature distribution of forming dies, and to provide a method of manufacturing an optical device. SOLUTION: The press forming apparatus is provide with a forming die set composed of top forming dies 102a and 102b and bottom forming dies 104a and 104b and induction heating coils 122 and 124 for high frequency induction heating of the forming die set collectively. The corners of the adjacent sides of the top forming dies 102a and 102b are rounded and also the corners of the adjacent sides of the bottom forming dies 104a and 104b are rounded. As a result, a locally heated part in the high frequency induction heating is eliminated and the temperature distribution of the top forming dies 102a and 102b and the bottom forming dies 104a and 104b are uniformized.
