PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil, in which a lead locating between a lead clamping chuck and a lead holder can be protected and, at the same time, a broken lead can be prevented from entering between the chuck and the holder under the condition that an outer tube, a lead delivering mechanism providing within the outer tube and having the lead delivering mechanism, the lead holder locating ahead the lead delivering mechanism in the outer tube and lightly holding the lead, are equipped. SOLUTION: Within the outer tube, a guide pipe 34 for protecting the lead 40 portion locating between the lead clamping chuck 22 and the first lead holding part 32c of the lead holder 32 under the state being energized with a return spring 36 at all times backwards toward the lead clamping chuck 22 is arranged between the lead clamping chuck 22 and the lead holder 32.
