PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume reducing method for waste plastic or the like and a volume reducing apparatus thereof which is excellent in operation efficiency. SOLUTION: This volume reducing apparatus for waste plastic or the like is provided with a charging cylinder 20 through which waste plastic is charged, a rotary press 30 which subjects the waste plastic in the charging cylinder 20 to the primary compressive volume reducing and pushes the same into a volume reducing cylinder 11 by rotation of a rotor 32 and a main press 10 which subjects the waste plastic packed into the volume reducing cylinder to the secondary compressive volume reducing by means of parallel movement of a ram 15. The waste plastic is thus compressed and reduced in volume.
