PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a starting characteristic of a spark ignition type multi- cylinder engine and exhaust emission in starting. SOLUTION: A starting time is shorted by carrying out initial fuel injection during a start in a cylinder in an intake stroke, while the following combustion is carried out in a cylinder, into which fuel is injected in an exhaust stroke, so that an HC emission amount can be minimized. Before cylinder determination, simultaneous injection is carried out in all the cylinders, so that an injection amount matching a requirement amount can be supplied. In this way, degradation of HC emission due to reduction in a starting time and a lean misfire can be prevented while carbon fouling and fogging of a plug at a low temperature is prevented.
