PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet conveyer, in this invention, which can cope with paper sheets of different size and can switch a conveying direction of the paper sheet between short/long wise conveyances in a condition stabilizing a conveying attitude of the paper sheet, and a paper sheet processor provided with this paper sheet conveyer. SOLUTION: A direction changer 5 has sensors 23, 24 detecting a conveying attitude of a bill P fed in a direction X, an X conveying mechanism 25 decelerating the bill P fed through the sensor stopped in a condition clamp restricting by a nip, and a Y conveying mechanism 36 clamp restricting the other part of the stopped note P by the nip fed out in a direction Y orthogonal to the direction X. Pinch rollers 28, 29 of the X conveying mechanism 25, after the note P is clamp restricted by the nip of the Y conveying mechanism 36, is separated from roller parts 26a, 26b of a drive roller 26 by first release mechanisms 34, 35 and a clamp restricted condition of the bill P by the X conveying mechanism 25 is released.
