PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel control device which can control an inter-vehicle distance giving favorable comfort by using a second inter-vehicle distance operation value instead of an inter-vehicle detection value at determination that a preceding car is stopped. SOLUTION: In a sensor switching part 5, an inter-vehicle distance detection value L1 and a relative speed detection value VR1 as well as a second inter- vehicle distance operation value L2 and a relative speed value VR2 are input, and when a preceding car stop signal VPR- STOP input from a preceding car stop determination part 2 is VPR- STOP=1 representing stop of a preceding car, the second inter-vehicle distance detection value L2 is output as an inter- vehicle distance L to an inter-vehicle distance control part 6, the relative speed value VR2 is output as a relative speed VR, the inter-vehicle distance L and the relative speed VR are made as input information at the inter-vehicle distance control part 6, feedback control by the relative speed VR is applied, and a car speed and a braking/driving force is controlled so that the inter-vehicle distance L accords with an inter-vehicle distance target value LCMD.
