PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture reader which precisely controls driving of a carrier to obtain a picture of high resolution and high picture quality. SOLUTION: In the high-resolution picture reader, an ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic receiver are arranged on the enclosure side and the carrier side as a pair, and a means which detects the precise position of the carrier by the phase difference between the transmission signal of the ultrasonic transmitter and the reception signal of the ultrasonic receiver is positioned.
