PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polyester monofilament for screen gauze with high dimensional stability. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a polyester monofilament for screen gauze composed of a single component polyethylene terephthalate, first a non-stretched filament is thermally stretched and guided to a non-heated roller and further, a stretched filament strip between a heated stretching roller and the non-heated roller is taken up while being stretched at a stretch rate of 0.1 to 10%. Consequently, this polyester monofilament which is best-suited for a gauze for precision screen printing is manufactured by this method, as it is possible to ensure the high dimensional stability of the gauze and inhibit the generation of scums during weaving the filament.
