The present discloses a network-based scanning system, where a sender, first scans a hard-copy document in a scanner and then sends the resultant image information to an e-mail address, the scanner attaches the e-mail address of the sender in the space "From:" of the e-mail message. In such way, the state messages or any other type of responses in the e-mail supporting the image info are directed to the computer of the sender and to the scanner itself. The sender identity is determined by means of the aperture stage of the network session used by the sender for accessing the scanner.
