PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that the operating characteristic of a starter is changed so as to have a harmful influence on the evaluation of an engine when the engine and a dynamometer are directly coupled to make the start test of the engine. SOLUTION: The start testing apparatus is constituted in such a way that a starter model part which simulates a starter characteristic in advance is installed at a controller used to control the dynamometer and that the engine is started by the output signal of the starter model part until the detected shaft torque characteristic of the engine is inverted and finishes the start.
