PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipment capable of stably and continuously rolling a metallic material. SOLUTION: After successively rolling a metallic rough shape material by a rolling mill array on the upstream side of a rolling line on which a plurality of rolling mill arrays are arranged in series, the succeeding metallic base stock is clamped with the movable joining device while holding a preceding metallic base stock with a pinch roll fixed to a movable joining device which is movable back and forth between the rolling mill train on the upstream side and the rolling mill array on the downstream side and advanced at a speed exceeding the advancing speed of the preceding metallic base stock detected with the pinch roll of the movable joining device. Positioning is performed by striking the tip of the succeeding metallic base stock to the rear end of the preceding metallic base stock, both base stocks are joined and made into a finished metallic material by continuously rolling by the rolling mill array on the downstream side.
