The rotary selvedge leno unit with a direct electromagnetic drive, for a loom, has at least one roller bearing (6) with the outer ring (6a), keyed to the leno disc (3). At least one centering ring (9) is in the housing (8), coaxial to the centre axis (4), to carry the inner ring (6b) of at least one roller bearing (6). A signal transmitter (13), of an absolute angle or path measurement system, measures the rotary angle of the rotor (2).
