PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide plate for a backlight in which a use range is greatly expanded by spreading light irradiated from an LED on the whole area in a short distance. SOLUTION: A side wall surface 12b is one of the side wall surfaces arranged peripherally along the outer shape of a surface to be irradiated 12a. The side wall surface 12b consists of an oblique side inclined so as to face a light source 14. The side wall surface 12b consisting of the oblique side reflects light irradiated from the light source 14 into the light guide plate 12 in the direction of a virtual end surface 20. Thereby, the side wall surface 12b uniformly irradiates the virtual end surface 20 of the use range C of the light guide plate 12 with light.
