PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foil gas bearing which can be applied to a high- temperature member without troubles by suppressing friction force due to contact between a rotating shaft and a bearing material at starting/stopping of equipment, while avoiding breakage of a back spring being held highly rigid, to permit simple and highly precise mounting of the back spring on a bearing housing and accurate holding of a bearing gas between the rotating shaft and the bearing material, making the bearing gap adjustable in an assembled state for the bearing, and increasing the maximum working temperature of the bearing material with improved heat resistance. SOLUTION: The foil gas bearing comprises the back spring, formed of a thin plate and supported on the side of the inner face of the bearing housing and the thin plate bearing material supported inside the back spring for axially supporting the rotating shaft, the back spring connected to mating portions formed at both ends, the mating portions consisting of an outside mating portion and an inside mating portion, protruded at the ends crossing each other in the configuration of granting tension to the back spring and subjected to crosswise relative movement restriction by locking planes, formed on the outside mating portion and on the inside mating portion.
