PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing backup material which is stably installed in a joint even if a joint has a dispersed width, to thereby ensure a sealing margin. SOLUTION: The sealing backup material 100 has a rod-like shape, and consists of a core 101, a sealing marginal material 102 arranged on a surface of the core 101, and first and second fixing members 103A, 103B which protrude from both side surfaces of the core 101, respectively. The sealing backup material 100 makes face contact with inner surfaces of the joint at four portions by the first and second fixing members 103A, 103B, and is stably and rigidly installed in a depth of the joint. Therefore, the sealing backup material ensures the sealing margin over the entire joint without forming a gap, etc.
