A method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of ultra-fine particles of acti ve carbon, which comprises providing a dispersion having water under pressure and, dispersed therein, an active carbon powder, burning a mixed gas of oxyg en and hydrogen in an atmosphere containing the water under pressure to thereby melting the active carbon powder with the resultant combustion gas. An aqueo us dispersion of ultra-fine particles of active carbon prepared by the method acts as a high functional water having bioactivity.
