PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing fall of a book which prevents the books from falling by an earthquake without deteriorating convenience for putting-in/taking-out the books and also prevents a bookshelf itself from falling down. SOLUTION: The device 1 for preventing fall of a book is provided with an earthquake operation mechanism 10 which is constituted to permit a weight 14 consisting of a magnet to be mechanically balanced in a first system with a rocking element 13 to be rocked by a vibration, a slide mechanism 30 which is constituted to release the mechanical balance in a second system with a slider 37 by collision with the weight 14 so as to move the slider 37 and also a fall preventing member 51 which is movable between a pair of guide rails and arranged at a position where the member 51 blocks a book putting-in/ taking-out part in the bookshelf 5 interlocked with the slider 37.
