PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating length of a seed longevity of rice by utilizing a nucleic acid marker adjacent to a gene which prolongs the seed lifetime of the rice, to provide a method for effectively selecting a crossed progeny having a long seed lifetime, and to provide a race of the rice having the long seed lifetime identified by the method. SOLUTION: This method for evaluating the length of the seed longevity of the rice comprises using a backcrossed self-fertilization phylogenic group (BC1 F9 ) which is crossed progeny obtained by backcrossing an Indian rice race Kasalath having a seed longevity with a Japanese rice race Nipponbare, and then identifying the nucleic acid marker neighboring to the gene qLG-7 of the ninth chromosome which prolongs the seed longevity based on a germination ratio useful as an evaluation value for the seed longevity of each phylon of the rice and genotype data on a restriction fragment length polymorphism marker through a variance analysis method and the MAPMAKER/QTL. Thus, the length of the seed longevity of the rice is evaluated by utilizing the nucleic acid marker, so that the crossed progeny having the long seed longevity is effectively selected. |
