PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decomposition method of volatile organic substance which is an effective decomposition method in the photooxidation decomposition method using photocatalyst. SOLUTION: A contaminated gas phase is introduced from an inlet 3 into a reaction tube 2, is allowed to flow into a reaction vessel 1 concurrently with chloride gas from a chlorine gas inlet 4 and is mixed. Further, a volatile organic substance in the contaminated gas phase is reacted with chlorine atoms generated by a reaction between ultraviolet rays from a black light 7 and chlorine gas from a chlorine gas bomb 5 in a space between the reaction tube 2 and a protective tube 8. In addition, the intermediate products and the unreacted volatile organic substances due to the reaction are zigzaged and circulated in the reaction tube 2, in the process of being exhausted from an exhaust port 12, are subjected to oxidation decomposition by the action of photocatalyst and ultraviolet rays and are decomposed up to carbon dioxide, water and hydrogen chloride. Moreover, the hydrogen chloride is made harmless by being passed through a neutralization vessel. |
