PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method with which formaldehyde can be decomposed, especially, formaldehyde in sea water can be decomposed at high efficiency. SOLUTION: A related strain of Methylophaga sulfidovorans having an activity to decompose formaldehyde and containing a base sequence of a homologous ratio of 90-95% to Methylophaga sulfidovorans especially, PERM P-17872 strain. A method for decomposing aldehyde, especially, formaldehyde in sea water with the decomposing strain. A decomposing agent containing the strain.
