COLON-SPECIFIC GENE AND PROTEIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new human colon-specific gene polypeptide, a DNA (RNA) encoding the polypeptide and a method for producing the polypeptide by a recombinant technique. SOLUTION: A method for utilizing a polynucleotide as a diagnostic marker for colon cancer and as a reagent to determine if the colon cancer is metastasized is provided. An antibody specific for the colon-specific gene polypeptide which is used as a target cancer cell and used as a part of a colon cancer vaccine is provided. A method for screening for an agonist and an antagonist for the polypeptide and therapeutic uses of the antagonist are provided.
