PURPOSE: A method for switching a channel in an exchange is provided to minimize the loss of a frame by quickly recognizing a fault generated in a T-link or an S-link composed in the channel of the exchange and performing a duplex switching. CONSTITUTION: A frame generating unit A of a T-link A receives data transmitted from a subscriber through a time switch and generates a frame including the data(S51). The frame generating unit A judges whether its fault is generated(S52). If its fault is generated, the frame generating unit A transmits an alarm signal to an error checking unit A(S53). The error checking unit A receives the alarm signal, transmits a fault generation signal to an error checking unit B of a T-link B for informing that the fault is generated in the frame generating unit A, and performs a duplex switching for setting the T-link B as an active state(S54). When a frame generating unit B generates a frame including the data received from the time switch, the error checking unit B inserts fault information into a previously set specific channel(S55). If the frame generating unit B generates the frame including fault information and transmits the frame to a data recovering unit B' of an S-link B, an error checking unit B' of the S-link B analyzes the frame received in the data recovering unit B', extracts fault information, transmits a duplex switching signal to an error checking unit A' of an S-line A, and sets the S-line B as the active state for performing the duplex switching(S56).
