PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and highly accurately detecting a multiple chain nucleic acid. SOLUTION: This method for detecting the nucleic acid contains a process for allowing a probe nucleic acid to interact with a specimen nucleic acid, thus hybridizing the probe nucleic acid with the specimen nucleic acid to form the hybrid multiple chain nucleic acid, and comprises allowing the hybrid multiple chain nucleic acid to interact with a multiple chain nucleic acid-affinitive compound and detecting light emitted from the compound. Therein, the multiple chain nucleic acid-affinitive compound is a light-emitting compound which has two or more chromophores having different light-emitting characteristics, respectively, wherein at least two chromophores among the chromophores have a difference of >=80 nm between the maximum absorption wavelength of the chromophore on the short wavelength side and the maximum light emitting wavelength of the chromophore on the long wavelength side. |
