METHOD FOR TREATING JELLY FISH USING COLLAGENASE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for volume reduction of jelly fishes by biologically treating the jelly fishes by a collagenase or the collagenase secreted by marine bacterium Vibrio sp. or Bacillus sp. having ability to decompose the jelly fishes and bacteria adequate for this method. SOLUTION: The volume reduction of the jelly fishes is rapidly and efficiently made possible by treating the jelly fishes, which are 95 to 98% in internal moisture because of the high water retainability of protein (collagen), are consequently extremely difficult in dewatering and incinerating treatment and make ordinary waste water treatment difficult because the jelly fishes are gelatinous and have poor flow properties, by the collagenase secreted by the marine bacterium Vibrio sp. (HIH-I strain) (trust No. FERM P-17897) or Bacillus sp. (J26W strain) (trust No. FERM P-18313).
