PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treatment material which accelerates the start-up of garbage decomposition in a garbage treatment apparatus for home use and to realize the acceleration with a good handleability. SOLUTION: This garbage treatment material is a mixture of wood chips carrying microorganisms capable of decomposing garbage by fermentation and particles made of a biodegradable material, having micropores on its surface, and impregnated with an alkaline liquid.
