PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device capable of determining a moment capable of stopping milking for each of dairy animals, for optimally milking the dairy animals. SOLUTION: The method for automatically milking the dairy animals, especially cows comprises (a) a step of driving a teat cup for milking the teat of the dairy animal, (b) a step of measuring milking parameters for obtaining the milking parameters during the milking of the teat in the step (a), and (c) a step of stopping the teat cup when a stopping threshold is reached. The stopping threshold is determined at least partially by the milking parameters. The device for automatically milking the dairy animals, especially cows comprises a driving means for driving the teat cup, a measuring means for milking parameters during milking the teat, a stopping means for the teat cup and a means for generating a threshold signal to show that the stopping threshold is reached. The stopping means is actuated by the threshold signal, and the means for generating the threshold signal transmits the signal corresponding at least partially to the milking parameters.
