PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a multi-layered coating film improved in chipping resistance without lowering smoothness, gloss sharpness or the like. SOLUTION: In the method for forming the multi-layered coating film by coating an article to be coated with a hydrophilic organic solvent type base paint (A) and further coating the same with an aqueous color paint (B) and an organic solvent type clear paint (C) in an uncured state and subsequently heating the coated article to cure these coating films at the same time, the hydrophilic organic solvent type base paint (A) comprises a paint containing neutralized matter (a) of an acrylic resin having an acid value of 20-50, a hydroxyl group based on lactone modification and a glass transition temperature of -20-+20 deg.C, a melamine resin (b) having a 1-5C alkoxy group and resin particles (c) as essential components.
