PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a massage method, with which shoulders can be massaged well continuously to the detection of shoulder positions. SOLUTION: This machine is provided with a reclining plate 30, which can be turned with a hinge shaft 29 as a supporting point, a presser 31 for treatment provided on the reclining plate and an operational airbag (operating means) 28 located on the rear side of the reclining plate 30 for pushing the reclining plate forward, and a shoulder massage unit 10a provided on the backrest of a chair body to be vertically displaced is lowered in a posture, with which the hinge shaft 29 can be positioned low relatively to that presser 31. The height positions of human shoulders F are detected by a switch (shoulder position sensor) 24 to be operated on the basis of the turn of the reclining plate 30 with the above lowering. After the shoulder position detection, the massage unit 10a is moved up for a prescribed distance. Next, the massage to the human shoulders F is started by repeatedly expanding/shrinking the airbag 28.
