PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system for a contactless type IC card which realizes optimum communications corresponding to the manufacturing conditions of respective IC cards. SOLUTION: Card characteristics data regarding the manufacturing condition of an IC card are stored in a memory of the IC card, which reads the data out of the memory at a data read request from a card reader writer and transmits them. Once receiving the card characteristic data sent from the IC card side, the reader writer 11 adjusts parameters regarding the conditions of communications with the IC card according to the data.
