PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a demultiplexer that can demultiplex transport stream packets with a capacity in excess of the capacity of a transmission channel into a plurality of transport packet streams and a multiplexer that multiplexes the transport packet streams to restore them into the original transport packet stream after transmission of the streams through the use of a plurality of the transmission channels in an MPEG 2 transport stream packet transmission system. SOLUTION: The packet transmission system comprises the demultiplexer that demultiplexes a transport stream packet stream and adds information such as demultiplex sequence and physical information of transmission channels to the demultiplexed transport streams and the multiplexer that extracts the physical information of the transmission channels and the information denoting the demultiplex sequence from a plurality of the demultiplexed transport streams and restores the demultiplexed streams into the original transport stream.
