METHOD FOR PRODUCING OPTICAL ISOMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical isomer having excellent transparency and a slight reduction in value of optical phase difference (retardation). SOLUTION: This method for producing the optical isomer is characterized as follows. The top surface of a substrate is coated with a polymerizable liquid crystal composition comprising a liquid crystal having polymerizable functional groups and exhibiting a liquid crystal state even at <=20 deg.C to form a liquid film or the composition is sandwiched between substrates. Photopolymerization is then carried out in a state of the oriented liquid crystal and a state of the held liquid crystal phase at <=20 deg.C.
