PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for authenticating a user which enable highly reliable authentication of the user by excluding an illegal action using false biometrics. SOLUTION: In the method for authenticating the user for deciding the identity of the user on the basis of an image presenting the body part of the user as biometrics images by a sensor, concerning feature information extracted from the single image of the body part imaged by the sensor and frames as a sequence of the images of the body part imaged by the sensor, a correspondent point between the preceding frame and the present frame is searched and on the basis of a sweep pattern as a sequence of moving vectors provided by calculating the moving vector of the relative motion of a finger, the user is authenticated.
