PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a completely new type seal method for a drive transmission and a roller in a variable crown roller used for a papermaking machine. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the drive transmission 11 and a joint structure 10 between the drive transmission and the roller 100 which is driven through the drive transmission. The drive transmission 11 includes a driving input shaft 12, and driving is transmitted to a saw-toothed gear through the input shaft 12 and to a roller jacket 100a of the driven roller 100 for rotating the roller. The roller 100 includes a fixed center shaft 100b and a bearing part G which supports the fixed center shaft. When the drive transmission 11 is at a fixed position, a seal 25 which includes a slide ring is fitted in between the drive transmission 11 and the roller 100 so that the roller jacket of the roller 100 may be operated in the axial direction and the radial direction.
