PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new secondary battery having high energy density, high capacity, and excellent in stability of a charge-discharge cycle and in safety. SOLUTION: This secondary battery includes at least a positive electrode 2, a negative electrode 1 and an electrolyte 3 as constituent elements. The battery uses a compound having, in its structure, a structure expressed by general formula (1) (Y<-> is a counter anion) in an oxidized state and a structure expressed by general formula (2) (X<+> is a counter cation) in a reduced state as at least one of active materials for the positive electrode and the negative electrode. Thereby, the battery having high capacity and excellent in stability and safety can be formed. |
