摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ring optical communication system that can effectively utilize the transmission capacity of an optical transmission line. SOLUTION: In the ring optical communication system 1 where a plurality of nodes (communication stations) are connected in a ring by using optical transmission lines to transmit image data between node communication stations, one of the nodes is selected to be a master station and the rest nodes are selected to be slave stations. The master station monitors a transmission/ reception state of image data in each node including the master station, selects assignment of the transmission capacity in the optical transmission lines 2 installed among the nodes, the node acting like a sender of image data is characterized in applying compression processing to the image data of the transmission object so that the transmission capacity of the image data to be distributed from the node to the optical transmission line 2 is equal to the transmission capacity assigned by the master station.
