PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid microlens in which the position and the focal length of the lens can be tuned. SOLUTION: The microlens consists of an insulating layer, a droplet of transparent conductive liquid disposed on a first surface of the insulating layer, and a plurality of electrodes insulated from the droplet by the insulating layer. The plurality of electrodes are disposed to be selectively biased so as to create a voltage between the droplet and each of the plurality of electrodes, respectively. When a bias voltage is applied, the contact angle between the droplet and the first surface varies and the droplet is repositioned along the first surface.
