PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering an unreacted monomer, by which an unreasonably long time for recovering the unreacted monomer contained in a polymer latex can be prevented, even when a foamed layer is developed from the liquid face of the polymer latex, whereby the unreacted monomer can be recovered in high efficiency. SOLUTION: This method for recovering the unreacted monomer comprises a process of vacuum-sucking the inside of a recovery line connected to a container in which a polymer latex containing the unreacted monomer is stored, a process of detecting the height of a foam layer developed from the liquid face of the polymer latex, and a process of changing the amount of a distilled gas in the recovery line in response to the detected height rate (foam layer ratio) of the foam layer to an allowable height of the foam layer.
