PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for image processing, which can perform proper processing by automatically deciding the kind of image data, and a medium where an image processing program is recorded. SOLUTION: The number of colors in use can be counted (step S104) by totaling a distribution of luminance of respective pixels selected by thinning out the image data (step S102), and consequently it is judged that an image is a natural image as the kind of the image data when the number of colors in use is large. According to the decision result, a contrast enlargement process (step S110), a chroma emphasis process (step S112), or an edge emphasis process (S114) can automatically be selected, which is suitable to the natural image, and color conversion by gradation pre-conversion (step S508) when the image is natural image or color conversion (step S506) by cache plus interpolation operation when not is performed even in a printing process to automatically select a color converting process with a small processing quantity. |
