<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber preform in which deformation produced during heating and integrating is decreased and the transmission loss in a manufactured optical fiber can be reduced. SOLUTION: A glass rod 2 to be the core of the optical fiber preform and a glass pipe 3 to be the clad of the optical fiber preform are prepared. Then the glass rod 2 is inserted into the glass pipe 3. The glass pipe 3 with the rod inserted is attached to a specified heating device and a gas containing halogen is made to flow through the space between them to substitute the air remaining in the space with the gas containing halogen. Then an oxyhydrogen flame burner 5 possessed by the heating device is used to heat and integrate the glass rod 2 and the glass pipe 3 at a temperature of >=1,300 deg.C and <1,900 deg.C.</p> |
