PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide inexpensive non-heat treated crankshaft steel for hot forging which can cope with a high output engine, and has high strength as well. SOLUTION: The steel has steel components containing, by mass, >0.43 to 0.50% C, 0.10 to 1.00% Si, 0.10 to 2.00% Mn, <=0.50% Cu, <=0.20% Ni, 0.20 to 1.00% Cr and <=0.05% Mo, and, if required, containing one or more kinds selected from <=0.120% Si, <=0.30% Pb, <=0.01% Ca and <=0.30% Bi, and the balance substantially Fe, and also satisfying C+Si/6+Mn/4.5+Cu/15+Ni/15+Cr/4+Mo/2.5>=0.74.
