The invention relates to a method of fixing panels, laths or sheathings (1) comprising a system of assembling load-distribution edges. The inventive method is characterised in that it consists essentially in: preassembling the transverse edges of the panels, laths or sheathings by sliding the male part thereof (2) into the corresponding female part (3) using a mutual movement that is parallel to the transverse edges; and subsequently assembling a length of panels, laths or sheathings (1) thus connected to pre-fitted panels, laths or sheathings (1) by means of the corresponding longitudinal edge thereof and using an elliptical movement. For this purpose, the part (5) that projects laterally in relation to the edge of the tongue or male part (2) of the upper locking device (4) of the male part (2) of one edge is hooked in the corresponding opening (6) of said upper locking device (4) which is provided in the housing forming the female part (3) of the corresponding adjacent edge. At the same time, close contact is maintained between the corresponding surfaces thereof through the application of a slight pressure from the locking device of the male part (2) in the direction of the female part (3) and the male part (2) is simultaneously fitted into the female part (3). The aforementioned operations are carried out without causing stress or deformation in relation to the constituent parts of the longitudinal edges. More specifically, the invention is suitable for use in the field of construction, in particular for floor, wall and ceiling coverings, especially those in the form of panels, laths or sheathings.
