PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound suitable as a charge controlling agent having excellent charge property. SOLUTION: The compound is an alkylene bisnaphthol derivative or its slat expressed by general formula [I] [Y1 , Y2 , Y1 ' and Y2 ' are each carboxy group, an esterified carboxy group or a group of formula (CONH)n-X (X is a hydrocarbon group, an aromatic group or a heterocyclic group; and (n) is 1 or 2); (k) is an integer of 1-12; R and R' are each H, an alkali metal, an alkyl, an acyl or a phenylalkyl; Q and Q' are each an alkyl or alkoxy with may have a 1-6C branch, a halogen, nitro, nitroso, amino or sulfo; and (m) and (m') are each an integer of 1-3]. The charge controlling agent and an electrophotographic toner containing the charge controlling agent can be produced by using the compound.
