PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber drawing apparatus which is capable of suppressing the trouble, such as a disconnection, even during acceleration of a line speed in optical fiber drawing and a method for controlling the same. SOLUTION: The operation control of the line speed which is the take-off speed of the optical fiber is performed in a line speed control section 19 in such a manner that the external diameter of the optical fiber measured by an optical fiber external diameter measuring section 8 attains a target external diameter after the start of the control operation of the drawing apparatus. When, for example, the front end of an optical fiber preform does not attain the shape steadily melted in a heating furnace, the feed speed of the optical fiber preform is subjected to three-stage control of the initial feed speed control of the optical fiber preform, the preform feed speed control corresponding to an acceleration speed and preform feed speed control corresponding to the line speed. When the front end of the optical fiber preform attains the steadily melted state, the preform feed speed control corresponding to the acceleration speed omitted and the optical fiber feed speed control to control the speed in two-stages is performed in the preform feed speed control section 22. |
