PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coated printing paper having a low density, a high whiteness degree, and excellent printability. SOLUTION: This coated printing paper has base paper to which a coated layer containing a pigment and an adhesive is applied, wherein the base paper contains mechanical pulp made of broadleaf trees. The mechanical pulp is produced by impregnating wood chips of the broadleaf trees with an alkaline hydrogen peroxide solution into and subjecting the impregnated chips to a normalpressure or pressure refining treatment.
