PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic-field-controlled active damper and an active vibration control device capable of sufficiently and effectively applying an external magnetic field on magnetic particles in a viscous fluid in regard to a vibration control damper of a type where the viscous fluid containing the magnetic particles is sealed in a sealed container and viscosity of the viscous fluid is changed by receiving the external magnetic field. SOLUTION: A magnetic field forming member 13 forming unlike poles when it receives external magnetic fields 16s and 16n and forming a magnetic field represented by lines M of magnetic force connecting the unlike poles in an interior of the sealed container 4 sealing the viscous fluid 10 is provided on the sealed container 4. By this, the magnetic field can be directly and evenly applied to the magnetic particles widely dispersed in the viscous fluid 10.
