PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP display device and a driving method therefor for displaying an excellent picture at low costs even if a PDP part of a high definition cell structure such as that for a Hi-Vision TV format is used. SOLUTION: When driving the PDP display device, voltage is applied to data electrodes in time with the initialization period or the erase period in an arbitrary sub-field to keep wall charged by reducing the potential difference between the data electrodes and the scanning electrodes. When the voltage applied to the scanning electrodes gradually increases, a positive voltage is applied to the data electrodes, and when the voltage applied to the scanning electrodes gradually decreases, a negative voltage is applied to the data electrodes. In such a manner, the wall charges are kept and effectively used for the discharge during a write period and a maintenance period in the following sub-field.
