PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an olefin polymerization catalyst which can produce an olefin polymer having high stereoregularity and a high mol.wt. in a high catalytic activity, and to provide a method for producing the olefin polymer in the presence of the catalyst. SOLUTION: This olefin polymerization catalyst comprises (A) a solid catalyst component comprising (a) a titanium compound, (b) a magnesium compound, and (c) an electro-donating compound, (B) a transition metal compound: Ll M<1> Xm [M<1> is a IIIA to VIA group transition metal; L is a substituted or unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl; X<1> is H, an alkyl, an aromatic group, a halogen, OR<1> or NR<2> 2 (R<1> and R<2> are each an alkyl or an aromatic group); (l)+(m) is equal to the atomic valency of M<1> ], (C) an organic metal compound, and (D) an electron- donating compound. The olefin polymer having a high mol.wt. is obtained by adding (B) the transition metal compound, even when the amount of hydrogen is not reduced.
