PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for a new organic photorefractive(PR) element exhibiting high PR effect without using poling treatment or the application of high voltage and provide an amorphous film produced by using the material and a low-cost organic PR element produced by using the amorphous film. SOLUTION: The material for an organic PR element is composed of a compound expressed by the general formula (R<1> to R<24> are each H or a 1-6C straight chain or branched alkyl), an electron-accepting compound and a nonlinear optical substance. The material is melted by heating on a glass substrate 1, sandwiched with another glass substrate 2 and cooled to form an amorphous film 3 composed of the material for the organic PR element and obtain the organic PR element 5.
