PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing YAG (yttrium-aluminum-garnet) powder, by which aluminum compound powder and yttrium (Y)-containing powder are mixed and pulverized in a short time as possible, and then the powdery mixture is burned at a low temperature of <1,500 deg.C to produce powder consisting substantially of YAG. SOLUTION: Aluminum compound powder and Y2 O3 powder as yttrium (Y)-containing compound powder are mixed and pulverized to obtain a powdery mixture, and, after that, the powdery mixture is burned to produce powder consisting substantially of YAG. In this case, as the aluminum compound powder, NH4 AlCO3 (OH)2 is used.
