The endothermic reaction occurs in an oven heated by heat sources (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) where oxidant (10, 11) and fuel are supplied to a combustion chamber (22) operating at a pressure greater than atmospheric. Hot combustion gases are circulated in a closed and elongated envelope (21) in the oven to allow indirect heat exchange between the gases and the process fluids. There are means (9a, 9b, 9c, 9d) of evacuating the combustion gases after the heat exchange. The oxidant is injected under pressure, and the pressure in the combustion chamber is 0.12-2 MPa. The envelope has a diameter of 0.06-0.6 m and a ratio of length to diameter of 4-30. The envelope is at least partly made of silicon carbide. The means of carrying out the combustion at a pressure above atmospheric include an expansion turbine (14) for the hot combustion gases mechanically linked to a compressor (13) in the oxidant feed line and to an electrical, mechanical or hydraulic power generator. There are also heat exchangers (2) between the gases coming out of the turbine and the process fluids before they are introduced into the oven. At least some of the combustion gases form the turbine pass through a heater (19) producing steam. |
